A Story of Fate and Family

                    Sebastian, Shauna and Rooks

“To keep our faces toward change, and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate, is strength undefeatable.” - Helen Keller

A Life of Music.....and Food

Music has been the largest swath of fabric in my life's quilt.  Following closely behind is a career in design/build (Hip the House),  a bit of restaurant dabbling, and the wonderful creation of a family.

But that  was tragically altered just after my child was born.  My husband, Sebastian Metz underwent a surgery that yielded a seven week coma and a permanent brain injury.  We were, at that time set to open a wine bar (HUGE - in a tiny space) on Tennyson in Denver.

To say the heartbreak and struggle was anything but profound would be a misstep. Everything would be different from there forward.  We sold the wine bar before it opened, our home, our cars....and found ourselves in a distant place.

Sebastian and Rooks would learn to walk, talk and eat at the same time.  Rooks grew into an awesome kitchen mate, and demonstrated an amazing talent for combining flavors.  Sebastian was an awesome critic, as he rarely complained!

Necessity: The mother of the next chapter

Necessity: The mother of the next chapter

In 2012 my health took a turn and I dug into everything about my life, diet, etc.  Much of my research led me to buy a cow's share.  I began churning butter from raw cow's milk and was shocked to discover how butter had been stripped of so much goodness!

I believe what I discovered not only helped my health, but elevated butter to its original splendor- complete with omega-3 fatty acids, healthy bacteria, Conjugated Linoleic Acid, fat-soluble vitamins(A, D, K, E) and antioxidants.... all things to fight things like inflammation, gut problems, heart disease, insulin issues, and more.

In the end love, determination and sunshine have sent us into a unique story with unconventional threads.  My quilt has colors I never imagined, and its threads have been fortified with some powerful forces: Life, love, family, endurance & sacred force.

Cheers and enjoy every minute you get!
